poster_triangle-1The story revolves around the passengers of a yachting trip in the Atlantic Ocean who, when struck by mysterious weather conditions, jump to another ship only to experience greater havoc on the open seas.

Triangle is a crazy movie, but that should be taken as a compliment to the film. From the very beginning you are trying to figure out what is happening and even up until it finishes you may still be wondering, but that is the great part about the movie. There is some good drama and suspense throughout the movie and it changes directions slightly throughout keeping you on your toes. The acting was good, especially from the main actress Melissa George who played Jess. She took the role and added to it to give a stronger impact.

The minor complaint I had was some things were repetitious at times, but without giving away any spoilers that is part of the film. I expected the movie to suddenly end with no real explanations and to the average viewer it may appear it does that, but if you look closer the film gives you plenty to interpret for the end. Everyone might not get Triangle and some of the events that happened, so I decided to make a spoiler filled explanation of the movie since some of the events may not be clear. You can find that way at the bottom of the review with lots of spoiler warnings.

My Rating: 8/10

*************SPOILERS*************

Only read below if you want the movie explained from my interpretation.

There are 2 layers to the movie. “Real Life” and what I will call “Sisyphean Punishment” The real life part is Jess with her son and being abusive towards him and eventually getting into an accident which kills both her and her son. The Sisyphean Punishment relates to Greek Mythology which is referenced in the film about Sysiphus being punished in Tartarus by being cursed to roll a huge boulder up a hill, only to watch it roll back down, and to repeat this throughout eternity. So in a sense the rest of the film is her boulder that she tries to make things right with her and her son only to fail each time at different spots. Most of the things in the film didn’t really happen. So after the accident which kills her the taxi driver (Could be considered the devil) makes a deal and strings together events which eventually lead her back to what seems to be reality which she can change, but each time she fails it starts over in an endless loop. The people on the yacht can be considered the dead or just part of her trial to try and make things right. You can interpret it other ways, but the references to Greek mythology make sense to this theory.

Also, I’ve been disscussing this with my Mom and what your saying I think is right. I think that maybe she realises that missing the 18 wheeler will fix things with her son.

I think that maybe it may be the right theory but its just a repeating streak and you don’t know if its her mind playing tricks on her or the real deal. I think that it was kinda of stupid, there were things she could have done…and why did it all happen. There was no past history to show the meaning to her where abouts and why she relives this and such. And if she is dead which is why it seems that way, why can people see her like the Taxi Driver, and if the others (her friends) are dead but they are still involved in the real life, does that mean the whole town is dead or something. It makes no since to me, the movie is very good as for quality, and the acting and the graphics but the whole base meaning doesn’t make sense.

Ratings Explained

10-9 = Very few movies will get a 9 or 10 and it is reserved for great movies with very few flaws. The acting, direction, music, plot, and ending all have to be excellent.

8-7 = Most highly recommended movies will fall under this range. They will be enjoyable and get a positive recommendation. Some flaws in the film will keep it from getting a higher score, but definitely worth checking out.

6-5 = Films in this range have several flaws and may be entertaining, but lack most of the qualities that make films great. These are generally reserved for when you want to watch a film and don't have too many options.

4-3 = Anything in this range isn't very good, but has a few positives throughout to keep it from getting the lowest scores. Even though the score is low there is still a chance some people may like these.

2-1 = The bottom of the barrel, the only difference between 2 and 1 is that if I can finish the movie it automatically gets a 2, but if it is so terrible that I need to turn it off before it ends then it gets a 1.
