theblackoutIt’s Christmas Eve, the city goes dark, and the few remaining tenants of The Ravenwood find themselves trapped in their building. And they are not alone.

The Blackout is a low budget film, but decent for the budget they had to work with. I’ll start with the bad stuff and finish with the good stuff about the film. The bad is the acting, it is very amateurish and none of the characters really stand out. The CGI was hit or miss, sometimes it looked cool and other times it looked exactly like CGI and really fake. The plot is average and doesn’t bring anything new to the genre.

Now for the good, the aliens looked kinda cool and there are some nice death scenes. I was impressed that it was fair game for the deaths and it wasn’t obvious who was going to die and who would survive. It was a little slow in the beginning, but once the action started it didn’t really stop until it was over. The movie won’t win any awards and will probably be a straight to DVD/TV type movie, so you can’t expect much from it, but it’s decent for what it is

Ratings Explained

10-9 = Very few movies will get a 9 or 10 and it is reserved for great movies with very few flaws. The acting, direction, music, plot, and ending all have to be excellent.

8-7 = Most highly recommended movies will fall under this range. They will be enjoyable and get a positive recommendation. Some flaws in the film will keep it from getting a higher score, but definitely worth checking out.

6-5 = Films in this range have several flaws and may be entertaining, but lack most of the qualities that make films great. These are generally reserved for when you want to watch a film and don't have too many options.

4-3 = Anything in this range isn't very good, but has a few positives throughout to keep it from getting the lowest scores. Even though the score is low there is still a chance some people may like these.

2-1 = The bottom of the barrel, the only difference between 2 and 1 is that if I can finish the movie it automatically gets a 2, but if it is so terrible that I need to turn it off before it ends then it gets a 1.
